Sam Houston, Past to Present
Sam Houston was born and raised in the small West Texas town of Colorado City where his family owned an automotive and hardware store and where Sam worked along with his family. He attended Colorado High School and played on the football team. From an early age Sam also expressed an interest in both the written and spoken word by editing the school paper and competing in UIL speaking events.
After high school, Sam graduated from the University of Texas with a degree in Business Administration and immediately began law school at Baylor University. While there, he was a member of the Order of Barristers and the Phi Delta Phi fraternity. Two and-a-half years later, he began his legal career at the Houston firm Andrews & Kurth in litigation.
Sam met his future law partners at Andrews & Kurth and they began their own practice in 1992. He was named a partner at Cruse, Scott, Henderson & Allen a year later and has remained a partner at the firm ever since.
As a practicing attorney for over 20 years, Sam’s legal work consists of litigation in many areas including professional malpractice, board complaints, business litigation, and general liability. He became board certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in Personal Injury Trial Law in 1995 and recertified in 2000 and 2005. Sam is also board certified by the National Board of Trial Advocacy in Civil Trial Advocacy. He is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates and has been rated AV, the highest ratings in legal ability and ethical standards by the Martindale-Hubbell legal rating system. Houston Magazine has frequently recognized Sam as one of “Houston’s Top Lawyers” and Texas Monthly has rated him a “Super Lawyer” for the past several years.
Sam is licensed to practice within Texas and is also licensed with the U.S. District Courts in the Southern, Northern, Eastern and Western Districts of Texas. He has briefed and argued frequently before the courts of appeals and in the Supreme Court of Texas and has tried dozens of trials to verdicts.
Sam has made presentations for the Texas Psychological Association in El Paso, Houston and Dallas and has also submitted legal articles to its newsletter. He has lectured at the Houston Psychological Association, the University of Houston Graduate School and consults with many of the professors and local psychologists in the city. Approximately eight years ago Sam established a Telephone Consultation Program in conjunction with the Texas Psychological Association.
Sam’s community efforts have been devoted towards his church where he has served as both a trustee and as the trustees presiding officer. Sam is married to Jantha Houston, also a lawyer, and they have two children, Audrey age 6 and Donnie age 7.
